ANURADHAPURA - The Sacred And Glorious City Of Sri Lanka

Among the ancient kingdoms of Sri Lanla the kingdom of Anuradhapura holds  special and important place in history.Located the north central province the city of Anuradhapura is  sacred place filled with natural beauty and enriched with numerous Buddhist religious sites.

The sacred Sri Maha Bodhi three,brought Sri Lanka by Theri Sanghamitta was planted in this noble city of Anuradhapura. Considered one of  oldest historically documented trees the world the Sri Maha Bodhi remains highly revered and worshipped site among Buddhists even today. 

The Atamasthana the eight sacred places of worship located in Anuradhapura are regarded as extremely holy sites Buddists. Great stupas such  Ruwanweliseya,Thuparamaya,Mirisawetiya,Abhayagiriya and Jethawanaya showcase the religious grandeur of this city.Pilgrims and tourists from both local and foreign countries continuously visit these sacred places to pay their respects.                         

Anuradhapura is also known as the "Kingdom Of Tanks." due to the advanced irrigation technology  ancient kings,massive reservoirs such as Kala wewa,Tissa wewa,Nuwara  wewa,Padaviya wewa and Hurulu wewa were constructed.These reservoirs greatly supported agriculture,turning the entire environment into a lush green landscape.

Anuradgapura is a living heritage where ancient history religious devotion and natural beauty come together.The wisdom and creativity ancient rulers,along with Buddhist culture,continue  guide us even today.living  country that possesses such a magnificent city truly a great blessing. Anuradhapura remains forever  the cultural hear of Sri Lanka.

🌍An Unforgettable Journey With My Friends To Anuradhapura 🌍

February 2nd,2026 became one of the most memorable days of my life.On that day my university friends Gayathri 👩, Senuri 👩, and I decided  travel together to Anuradhapura .We planned our trip the previous day and started early in the morning with excitement.I boarded the bus around 7.00 a.m and Senuri joined me on the way.Later gayathri arrived from nochchiyagama and finally all three of us met in Anuradhapura around 9.30 a.m. Wbegan our journey by visiting the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi ,where we offered flowers ,oil lamps and prayers with devotion.Then we went to the magnificent Ruwanwelisaya and spent some peaceful moments in silence and gratitude.  Around 1.00 p.m,we went to a restaurant and enjoyed a delicious full rice meal followed by ice cream.We laughed talked and enjoyed simple moment together.After lunch we went shopping.We selected beautiful bag for Gayathri❜s mother.I bought a purse for my sisters birthday.Later,my friends helped me choose a lovely blouse and we als...
